Sa Farola Lighthouse (Ciutadella)<\/h2>\n<p><em>The \u201curban\u201d lighthouse of Ciutadella, at the edge of the harbor entrance.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>History<\/h3>\n<p>Built in <strong>1863<\/strong> to mark the entrance to the port of Ciutadella and <strong>electrified in 1918<\/strong>, it was one of the first lighthouses in the Balearic Islands with electric lighting. Sant Carles Lighthouse (Ma\u00f3 \/ Es Castell)<\/h2>\n<p><em>The heir of the first lighthouse in Menorca, at the southern mouth of the port of Ma\u00f3.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>History<\/h3>\n<p>The original lighthouse of <strong>1852<\/strong> was the <strong>first one lit in Menorca<\/strong>, next to the ruins of Sant Felip castle. Being in the middle of a military maneuvers area, it was demolished at the beginning of the 20th century and replaced by the current concrete tower, about 10 meters, with black and white stripes. <\/p>\n<h3>Can you visit? Schedules <\/h3>\n<p><strong>Visits are not allowed<\/strong>: it is inside a military compound. Lighthouse of the Illa de l\u2019Aire (Sant Llu\u00eds)<\/h2>\n<p><em>The tallest and the most inaccessible: an uninhabited islet, marine reserve, and refuge of the black lizard.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>History and environment<\/h3>\n<p>With its tower of <strong>38 meters<\/strong>, it is the tallest lighthouse in Menorca \u2014 and it was the tallest in all the Balearic Islands until 1977. It stands on an islet of barely <strong>34 hectares<\/strong> off Punta Prima, home to the <strong>black lizard<\/strong> (an endemic subspecies of the Balearic sargantana) and protected birdlife. <\/p>\n<h3>Can you visit? Schedules <\/h3>\n<p>The lighthouse is <strong>not<\/strong> open to visitors and landing on the islet is <strong>restricted<\/strong>, especially during the breeding season.
